Last Orgy of the Third Reich

Um, yeah… “Last Orgy of the Third Reich” also known as “Caligula reincarnated as Hitler”or “L’Ultima Orgia de la Gestapo”, is an Italian film directed in 1977 by Cesare Canevari… what to say about it? First of all, it’s one of the most famous Nazi sexploitation flicks, so naturally I thought the reputation was merited. “Ilsa, she Wolf of the SS” was my first and so far the best entry in the genre and I compare all other similar works to it.

“Last Orgy of the Third Reich”, on the other hand, must be one of the worst edited films I have ever had the misfortune to see. Talk about incoherent and random plots and you’d have to go no further than this. Scenes jump from one to another, totally unrelated to the previous, while you wonder what the fuck are you watching.

The main character Lisa Cohen is taken to a Nazi love camp, basically a harem for soldiers. First she wants to die. The commandant swears she’ll kill her only after he brings her will to live back. Then he tortures her. Then she fucks the kind-hearted doctor who’s disillusioned with the way the Reich is going. Then she suddenly becomes a good slave for the commandant. And then, after a series of totally awkward scenes, she kills him.

The problem is this so called sexploitation takes itself way too seriously, to the point it stops being exploitation and becomes a tremendously boring and dull drama. The “sex” scenes and all the nudity shots are awful, and the gore is practically non-existent. I don’t know at which audiences was this aimed. Those wanting to see a drama will be unsatisfied at the extremely choppy, awkward and plain crappy attempt at character development, and others like myself will be hugely disappointed with the lack of cheesy gore and gratuitous nudity. Its only redeeming quality is the lead actress Daniela Poggi. See proof below:

This is better left forgotten in the dusty pages of exploitation cinema history.

I actually disagree with you. I did not find this movie very boring, I actually found it somewhat fascinating. I can relate to the main character, Lisa, by the fact the in the beginning she has no will to survive, therefore does not care what pain, damage, etc. is inflicted upon her nor can she really feel it. However I do not understand why she finally found a will to live just because she heard that she didn’t kill her family. If she found her will to live because of her pregnancy then the movie would have made a whole lot more sense. But this is 1970′s movie. I have to be realistic. They did not have the technology we do today. They made a story about the Nazi’s and it actually seemed somewhat realistic to me because of the main character, her emotions, and the way the Nazi’s responded to the Jews (eating them I mean).

You have a point, but emotional transformations of a character have been done countless times before, and “Last Orgy” is a case when it’s done poorly. I don’t recall the film much anymore, but I do remember being bored almost to death.
